Potential field trip

Mmmm….a shop in Deep Cove that I haven’t heard of before Room 6–they are the only Canadian distributor of Suss (Hollywood Knits) yarn, and they have lots of girlie clothes and yarn–check out the DIY section on their site.

Inspiring Read

I read this book The Joy of Doing Things Badly while I was in New York. I bought it one night while Vince and I were walking (even though our feet were covered in blisters.) I finished it during the drive home and I LOVED it. I found it inspiring and it helped squelch my perfectionist tendencies. Her writing also encouraged me to just live life and enjoy it without overanalysing everything. The author is Veronica Chambers.

Books, books books

Ok, so I’m joining an online book club and our first book is Little Earthquakes-I hope it’s good. I actually just bought one of her other books (Good in Bed) a little while ago which I haven’t gotten around to reading yet.
Let’s tell each other about books we’ve read and what we like so we get ideas, what do you think?

I finished Elegance (passed on from you Jess!), it was great, I didn’t want it to end. I’m in the middle of reading Bill Bryson’s I’m a Stranger Here too (or something like that). It took me a while to want to read his stuff as all the middle aged ladies who frequented Book Warehouse used to read him. He is a riot though and really witty, recommended for those in-between book times.

Current inspirations

Hi Girls,

I love the lists that you have going…here’s what’s keeping me entertained lately:

  • I joined two online swaps -one for a stationary trade, and the other for a magic yarnball (you send a ball of yarn that is wrapped around a bunch of treasures-I sent my buddy folding chinese scissors, gold thread, mint tea, a crochet hook, among other stuff) My partners have gotten their packages–I’m still waiting for mine. Keep your fingers crossed.
  • I opened up an etsy shop that I’m hoping launch eventually (I keep changing it to say “August” then “September” than “October”
  • Though I’ve been procrasting, I hope to sew that dress that I’ve cut out a month ago. I’m really obsessed with sewing right now…I keep going to Chapters to check out the Amy Butler book, and the UBC bookstore just got Sew U. Jess, have you used your copy yet?
  • I bought myself a bunch of drawing books–and I’m going to try and give myself little drawing projects. I bought Dan Gregory’s book The Creative License–it’s really excellent
  • I’m trying to spend less time reading blogs (time-suckers)–but this one gets me everytime Posy gets Cosy

Nan’s attempt at creativity

Ok girls, I’ve got to publish my list of things to do to make myself stay home more and be more creative:

Play with Teagan (read to her, talk with her), knit, sew, clip out articles and photos/recipes from old mags (esp Martha), cook awesome complicated meals,  read my myriad of books and mags I haven’t even read yet!, be choosy about which shows to watch (ie: turn off tv if favorite shows aren’t on), turn on music during times tv isn’t on, keep house clean (easier to do proactive cleaning rather than heaps of panic cleaning), do yoga (especially with Teagan-she likes it!)

Anyways, I will try and stick to this list-also, I may add to it at different times…if you girls have suggestions for me too I would really appreciate it!

Teagan’s cardigan-a work in progress

I’ve finally revistited my knitting project of a little yellow cardigan hoodie for Teagan. I hadn’t picked it up since the week before I delivered her. It is supposed to fit up to 6 months and knowing me and how slow I am it won’t be done in time! That’s the problem with baby clothes, they grow out of them so damm fast! Wish me luck!

Oh the Shame

Hey girls. I am finally posting, even though I’m wearing leggings and my hair is looking very pro-hockey. My new prof is a taskmaster and she is draining all my good stuff. I guess I have been pseudo-frugal lately (translation: pretending to save money but actually spend it under guise of need as opposed to what it actually is – want!!!) Here are some of the ways i justify my magazine addiction:

  • take on extra hours at work
  • cook at home
  • go to the library
  • refashion clothes that have become dull
  • spend oodles at the fabric store
  • cyber-window shop
  • go through old magazines and cut out inspiring pictures
  • play with ella
  • make lists that i never look at again
  • nap
  • drink caffeine so my life appears exciting
  • eat cookies
  • rewatch all six seasons of sex and the city

Here’s a secret. Whenever I miss Nan and Lawn, I watch SATC coffee shop scenes because that is what our friendship is all about. Food, laughter, support, love, inspiration. xoxox

Make yer own puppets!

Hey Lawn, this one is for you: Project Puppet a puppet making site where you buy kits to make awesome puppets! How fun! I was so happy when I found this. All is good in the world.

Leggings

So, what’s with the leggings revolution? I just needed to put that out there…I’m watching the Tyra show and she’s wearing some. I just can’t get the 80’s out of my head when I see them. Really, it seems to me to be one step closer to stirrup pants! EEK! Maybe they’d be cute to me if I didn’t grow up in the 80’s.
